Understanding Gen-Z Employees
What are the first 3 words coming to your mind when you hear Gen-Z? I can only think of Impulsive, irrational and intentional but they are way beyond that. Today let’s explore this generation in the public eye these days and unfold understanding Gen-Z at the workplace from an employer’s perspective as we move ahead. The Gen-Z also known as Zoomers, are the individuals born between the mid-1990s to early 2010s. At present almost one fifth of the workforce in India is Gen-Z. According to the statistics they are 2.8 times more likely to remain motivated when they can be their true selves at the workplace. Many times, understanding them becomes a task because of the huge age gap and differences in opinion but it’s not impossible either!
Here’s how you can decode the Gen-Z work force better:
1. Believe in Diversity and Inclusion:
Gen-Z abides by diverse and inclusive workplaces. They cherish individuality and differences. It allows employees to flourish holistically and promotes cohesiveness in the workplace. It also promotes strong communication and clarity within the organization which in turn helps the organization to thrive.
2. Adhere to Flexibility and Remote Work:
Gen-Z is more inclined towards flexibility and remote work settings. They expect employers to offer flexible scheduling which grants them leisure time and also provide them the opportunity to upskill in other areas of interest.
3. Prioritize Mental Health and Wellbeing:
Is your organization a safe space? Gen-Z is more vocal about mental health and wellbeing than any other generations. Gen-Z is committed to continuous learning and professional development. They believe in upskilling as an employer we should always provide opportunities for growth and development through training, mentorship, and education.

The last and most important Gen-Z prioritizes work-life balance. They give equal importance to every aspect of their life and highly expect employers to respect their personal time and boundaries. They understand the importance of taking time off.
